A select number of AACSB-accredited online programs are available in the United States. This article reviews some of the best distance learning options for students.

The best undergraduate and graduate accounting programs online are accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). While countless traditional, on-campus programs have received such accreditation, only a few online programs are AACSB-accredited.

This article presents some of the best AACSB-accredited options available, and also presents additional online degree options from online universities.

Accounting Online Courses & Undergraduate Certificate – Northeastern University

Northeastern University, with an AACSB-accredited business school, offers an undergraduate certificate in accounting. This certificate can be completed completely online via Northeastern University's distance learning platform, which offers asynchronous courses, allowing students to log in and learn whenever it is most convenient for them.

The certificate program, which consists of eight courses and 24 total credit hours, is ideal either for those who are interested in attaining an entry-level business position, or those who are preparing for a bachelor accounting online degree.

For more information on tuition or admissions requirements, contact Northeastern University at 877-668-7727.

Accounting Online Courses & Undergraduate Bridge Program – Auburn University

Auburn University, which is AACSB-accredited in accounting, offers a series of undergraduate courses which prepare students to take the CPA exam.

Most states require that students have a total of 150 credit hours before being able to take the CPA exam. Since most undergraduate programs only contain 120 credits, Auburn university provides a special undergraduate concentration of accounting online courses totaling 30 hours, which, when combined with an undergraduate degree, gives students the ability to take the CPA exam without having to pursue an MS or MBA degree.

To be eligible for Auburn University's program, students must:

  • Have a business degree from an accredited school
  • Provide transcripts from all past college and university learning
  • Be a U.S. citizen or approved resident

For more information on Auburn University's program, contact AU at (334) 884-6207.

Bachelor Accounting Online Degrees – Online Universities

There are a number of dedicated online universities which offer bachelor accounting online degree programs in the United States, including:

All of the above university programs offer courses on an asynchronous schedule, meaning students have the flexibility to log in and learn whenever it is most convenient for them. Additionally, Kaplan University and the University of Phoenix offer some synchronous course options in which lectures are streamed live to students. While such courses offer less scheduling flexibility, they do offer a larger degree of interactivity.

Benefit of Bachelor Accounting Online Degrees

For professional and nontraditional students unable to attend a traditional, campus-based university program, online learning provides students with the freedom to pursue an academic degree while maintaining their careers and outside demands.

A number of quality accounting online courses and degree programs are available for such students to consider. For more information on additional AACSB-accredited programs, reference the AACSB guide to schools.

David,
Hello! We at Northeastern appreciate your mention of our accounting program in the article. However, I want to let you know that our BS in Finance and Accounting (http://www.cps.neu.edu/bs_fin_acct/) and our Fast-Track BS in Finance and Accounting Management (http://www.cps.neu.edu/FastTrack_Finance_Accounting_Management) are AACSB accredited. However, our certificate (which is mentioned in your article) is not AACSB accredited.

Just wanted to let your readers know! Thanks very much.

Zoe,

Thanks so much for the comment, and for clarifying this for our readers. In the article, I specifically mentioned that your undergraduate business programs were AACSB accredited, and not the certificate program, to let readers know that the school has been recognized as having legitimate programs by AACSB. In the article (and this is for readers' benefit as well), I only mention when specific programs are accredited instead of schools.

Thanks again for your comment and clarification.

Best,
David
